Did You Know?

by Namaste Gurl on April 4, 2011

That blue corn chips go amazingly well with raw almond butter? And dark chocolate, cinnamon apple slices, and blueberries. :)  Such a yummy and nourishing snack!

If you didn’t know, not to worry, now you know! :)

What doesn’t almond butter go good with, is my main question?

Also, were you aware that coconut butter is the BEST. salad dressing. ever. ?

Tropical- type salad

Crack- sauce dressing. :-)

While I do form some rather strange food combinations, this one was out of this world, and something you won’t want to not try!  Really though, this was one of the best combos ever, hands down, no lies.

On the more pessimistic end- did you realize that blueberries and nutritional yeast go AWFUL together?

Now that was a combo that went in the trash for me.

Yeah, while I love my nutritional yeast and sprinkle it on about everything, I surely don’t recommend sprinkling it on your oatmeal or sweet cereal (savory, yes).

You can read about my mishaps with this non- matrimonial food combo in this post. :-)

I’m not going to say that almond butter and nutritional yeast don’t go hand- in- hand together, it’s the sweet part that doesn’t go.  They go great together, actually, did you know that?

I learned that when I made HEAB’s dessert hummus.

It was delicious, by the way.  Just another reason to eat chocolate and nut butter for meals!

I still don’t recommend nutritional yeast in sweet combos, such as fruit smoothies, banana oatmeal, sweetened cereals, ice- cream, etc. But I do recommend making HEAB’s dessert chocolate chip hummus, as that’s a combo where nut butter and chocolate go delicious with nooch!

Did you also know that pear + white cheddar go oh SO amazing together?

Arugula and butter lettuce with tart pear, white cheddar (Organic Valley’s- the best!), cinnamon pecans, cranberries, and avocado dressed in balsamic and olive oil.  Crusty bread on the side.

I was a little hesitant to try cheddar and pear together, but I do love goat cheese and apple combo, so I went for it.  Deliciousssss.

Another matrimonial combo.

….And some crusty “garlic- bread”, using the pan de campange bread from the bakery I work at.

Garlic bread- Crusty bread sprinkled with minced garlic, olive oil and nutritional yeast, placed in broiler for 3-5 minutes till toasty.

I’m not sure if you knew this one, but the high for today is 72 degrees, so it’s time for this girl to enjoy the sun and beauty.

Off to the pool for a swim!
Happy Monday- let it be wonderful one. :-)

I’ll be back later with a cocoa-nut hummus recipe- get excited!

I love all the healthy food going on here! It’s a snow/rain mix here in Portland, Maine…I wonder when it’ll ever be warm enough for swimming?

I love how you are so courageous in trying different combinations, even if it doesn’t work out quite like you planned (blueberries and nooch? lol). How do you make your cocoa-spiked quinoa? I really want to try that tropical salad! Yum!

Have a lovely day!

For the quinoa I just combined 1/4 cup rinsed quinoa with 1.5 teaspoons cocoa powder, a dash of maple syrup and sea salt, and 3/4 cup water, brought to boil, then simmered for 15 minutes till water was absorbed and quinoa was cooked.
Let me know how it turns out!

Laura,
You must- it’s simply amazing. The saltiness of the chips mixed with the sweetness and creaminess of the almond butter is out of this world!

Can’t blame me- I’m a spontaneous foodie, so I get around to trying all sorts of weird combos :) But the coconut butter as salad dressing, oh, that’s totally not weird ;)
Thanks- sending good weather to you, too!

Yes, I did know that almond butter and blue tortilla chips are a match made in heaven, but no, I did not know about using coconut butter as a salad dressing. We learn the best things from each other, no? ;)

Hope you enjoyed your pool time. One word: Jealous! We spent the afternoon in our basement due to tornado warnings. Really, why does anyone live east of the Mississippi?
